Organic Chem­istry with focus on poly­mers (W3)

Work­ing field:

The Fac­ulty of Envir­on­ment and Nat­ural Sci­ences of Branden­burg Uni­versity of Tech­no­logy Cottbus–Sen­ften­berg (BTU) invites applic­a­tions for a

PRO­FESS­OR­SHIP Organic Chem­istry with focus on poly­mers (W3)
com­men­cing at the earli­est oppor­tun­ity.

We are look­ing for an indi­vidual who rep­res­ents the field of organic and poly­mer chem­istry with an excel­lent/out­stand­ing record of accom­plish­ment in research and teach­ing. This should be demon­strated by pub­lic­a­tions in high-rank­ing inter­na­tional journ­als, suc­cess­ful third-party fund­ing, and a clearly recog­niz­able aca­demic pro­file. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate has estab­lished its own pro­file by an innov­at­ive approach to poly­mers, poly­mer mater­i­als includ­ing the cor­res­pond­ing exper­i­mental meth­ods and is will­ing to develop a strong research group on mater­i­als and meth­ods over a long term at BTU.

The offered pro­fess­or­ship is focused on the chem­istry of syn­thesis, modi­fic­a­tion and func­tion­al­iz­a­tion of poly­mers and poly­mer mater­i­als, prefer­ably with an emphasis on hybrid and com­pos­ite mater­i­als, includ­ing the applic­a­tion and devel­op­ment of the required ana­lyt­ical meth­ods. Fur­ther com­pet­ences in mod­el­ing the chem­ical and phys­ical prop­er­ties of poly­mers and poly­mer mater­i­als is of advant­age. We expect the close cooper­a­tion with the Fraunhofer pro­ject group "Bio­func­tion­al­iz­a­tion/Bio­lo­giz­a­tion of Poly­mer Mater­i­als".

The teach­ing com­mit­ments focus on the con­sec­ut­ive Bach­elor and Mas­ter pro­gram "Mater­i­als Chem­istry" (in Ger­man lan­guage) and includes the organ­iz­a­tion and per­form­ance of lec­tures, exer­cises, sem­inars and lab courses in organic chem­istry, poly­mer chem­istry and poly­mer mater­i­als includ­ing biopoly­mers. An act­ive par­ti­cip­a­tion in the fur­ther devel­op­ment of the "Mater­i­als Chem­istry" pro­gram is expec­ted. Amongst oth­ers, this includes the estab­lish­ment and con­cep­tion of the new branch "Poly­mer mater­i­als with hybrid prop­er­ties" in our mas­ter pro­gram and intro­duc­tion of innov­at­ive teach­ing formats.
The abil­ity to teach in Ger­man and Eng­lish is a pre­requis­ite for employ­ment. Cap­ab­il­ity of high-qual­ity under­gradu­ate and gradu­ate teach­ing in other BTU train­ing pro­grams is assumed.

Other duties res­ult from the require­ments set by § 42 Branden­bur­gisches Hoch­schul­ge­setz (Higher Edu­ca­tion Act of the State of Branden­burg - BbgHG) in con­junc­tion with § 3 BbgHG.

Require­ments:

Applic­ants strongly encour­aged to sub­mit a teach­ing and research concept of max­imum 10 pages as part of the applic­a­tion doc­u­ments includ­ing inform­a­tion about cur­rent and planned ac-quis­i­tion of third-party fund­ing as well as exist­ing and planned teach­ing activ­it­ies.

Pre­requis­ites and con­di­tions of employ­ment fol­low §§ 41 para­graph 1 (no. 1 - 4a) and 43 of the BbgHG. Exper­i­ence in the acquis­i­tion and real­iz­a­tion of third-party fun­ded pro­jects is expec­ted. Fields of research should be rel­ev­ant for the DFG (Ger­man Research Found­a­tion) or sim­ilar inter­na­tional research fund­ing organ­iz­a­tions. Lec­tures are primar­ily to be held in Ger­man, flu­ency in Eng­lish is expec­ted.
