PRO­FESS­OR­SHIP (W3) Decar­bon­isa­tion and
Trans­form­a­tion of Industry

Working field:

The decar­bon­isa­tion of energy-intens­ive indus­trial pro­duc­tion and pro­cesses such as the pro­duc­tion of steel and non-fer­rous metals, the chem­ical industry, the lime and cement industry, and the glass industry is a key task in the cli­mate policy

The pro­fess­or­ship pos­i­tion is respons­ible for research on decar­bon­isa­tion in energy-intens­ive indus­tries in close cooper­a­tion with the Ger­man Fed­eral Min­istry for the Envir­on­ment, Nature Con­ser­va­tion and Nuc­lear Safety (spon­sor of the chair) and to advise the rel­ev­ant stake­hold­ers.

The pro­fess­or­ship will rep­res­ent the BTU in the decar­bon­isa­tion cluster of research organ­isa­tions. They cur­rently include the Insti­tute for Low-Car­bon Indus­trial Pro­cesses (DLR), the Fraunhofer Research Insti­tute for Energy Infra­struc­tures and Geo­thermal Sys­tems (IEG), and the Com­pet­ence Cen­ter Cli­mate Pro­tec­tion in Energy-Intens­ive Indus­tries (KEI).

Will­ing­ness to teach in Eng­lish is a pre­requis­ite. The pro­fess­or­ship is integ­rated into the fac­ulty's bach­elor's and mas­ter's pro­grams with its ser­vices in the form of com­puls­ory and elect­ive courses for Ger­man- and Eng­lish- lan­guage includ­ing intro­duct­ory as well as advanced mod­ules. It is also con­ceiv­able to con­trib­ute for teach­ing ser­vices to the degree pro­gram "Envir­on­mental Resource Man­age­ment" and to par­ti­cip­ate in the planned mas­ter's pro­gram "Trans­form­a­tion Stud­ies".

Other duties res­ult from the require­ments set by § 42 Branden­bur­gisches Hoch­schul­ge­setz (Higher Edu­ca­tion Act of the State of Branden­burg - BbgHG) in con­junc­tion with § 3 BbgHG.


The applic­ant should have a proven track record in at least one of the three focus areas men­tioned below:
  • Innov­a­tion Research / Innov­a­tion Eco­nom­ics,
  • Trans­form­a­tion Research/ Trans­ition Man­age­ment,
  • Organ­isa­tional Devel­op­ment/ Change Man­age­ment.

Applic­ants must have out­stand­ing sci­entific achieve­ments (proven through pub­lic­a­tions and third-party fund­ing). An inter­na­tion­ally vis­ible research pro­file is required, in the con­text of which ques­tions in the field of appoint­ment are ana­lysed empir­ic­ally in a the­or­et­ic­ally well-foun­ded man­ner

Exper­i­ence with inter-and trans­dis­cip­lin­ary research pro­jects is also expec­ted. Moreover, In-terna­tion­al­isa­tion is a high pri­or­ity for the BTU hence, inter­na­tional research and teach­ing exper­i­ences are desir­able.

Please refer to §§ 41 para­graph 1 No 1 – 4a and 43 BbgHG for pre­requis­ites and con­di­tions of employ­ment. Exper­i­ence in the acquis­i­tion and real­iz­a­tion of third-party fun­ded pro­jects in the field is expec­ted. Fields of research should be rel­ev­ant for DFG (Ger­man Research Found­a­tion) or sim­ilar inter­na­tional research fund­ing organ­iz­a­tions. Lec­tures are primar­ily to be held in Ger­man, flu­ency in Eng­lish is expec­ted.
