Leib­niz-Zen­trum All­ge­meine Sprach­wis­sen­schaft (ZAS)

The Leib­niz Centre Gen­eral Lin­guist­ics (ZAS) is a non-uni­ver­sity rese­arch insti­tute of the State of Ber­lin ded­ic­ated to the study of human lin­guis­tic abil­ity in gen­eral and its exp­res­sion in indi­vidual lan­guages.

Stu­dent assist­ant in the pro­ject “Mod­el­ing Mean­ing-Driven Register Vari­ation" (Mod­Mean), part of SFB1412 “Register” at ZAS

The Leib­niz-Zen­trum Allge­meine Sprac­h­wis­senschaft (ZAS) is look­ing to hire a stu­dent research assist­ant in the semantics/prag­mat­ics research group (FB 4). This pos­i­tion is for up to 40 hours/month under the pro­vi­sions of the nego­ti­ated con­tract for stu­dent employ­ees in Ber­lin (cur­rently: 12.50 Euro/h). The employ­ment is for an ini­tial period of six months and can start on July 1st, 2022 or soon there­after. As long as stu­dent status obtains, the employ­ment can be exten­ded for up three years. In the past, we have pro­moted tal­en­ted stu­dents towards a research career by e.g. co-author­ship on pub­lic­a­tions and con­fer­ence attend­ances. The pos­i­tion is tar­geted at stu­dents at the BA level, but stu­dents at the MA level are also eli­gible.

Working field:

  • Assist in car­ry­ing out online and lab-based exper­i­ments
  • Con­duct cor­pus ana­lyses
  • Provide research sup­port to pro­ject mem­bers
  • Par­ti­cip­ate in reg­u­lar pro­ject meet­ings, and help coordin­ate pro­ject events and activ­it­ies
  • Assist at ZAS events

Requirements:

Your pro­file:
  • Interest in lin­guistic research; interest in topic of register vari­ation espe­cially wel­come
  • Reli­ab­il­ity and abil­ity to work inde­pend­ently
  • Good com­puter skills; pre­vi­ous exper­i­ence con­duct­ing online exper­i­ments and per­form­ing stat­ist­ical ana­lyses desir­able but not required
  • Work­ing know­ledge of Eng­lish; know­ledge of Ger­man desir­able
