The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

start­ing as soon as pos­sible and ini­tially lim­ited to 2 years The period of employ­ment is gov­erned by the Fixed Term Research Con­tracts Act (Wis­senschaft­szeitver­trags­ge­setz – Wis­sZeitVG). The pos­i­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­demic qual­i­fic­a­tion.

Working field:

The Chair of Tis­sue Dynam­ics (Campàs Lab) uses inter­dis­cip­lin­ary and quant­it­at­ive approaches to study the phys­ics and mech­an­ics of mul­ti­cel­lu­lar sys­tems (https://physics-of-life.tu-dresden.de/en/research/core-groups/campas). We have recently developed novel tech­niques to quantify and per­turb local tis­sue mech­an­ics using micro­droplets. These tech­niques offer unique oppor­tun­it­ies to study phys­ical aspects of mul­ti­cel­lu­lar sys­tems. Our lab, hos­ted at the Max Planck Insti­tute for Cell Bio­logy and Genet­ics, is part of the Cluster of Excel­lence PoL (https://physics-of-life.tu-dresden.de/en), which is a new inter­dis­cip­lin­ary research cen­ter ded­ic­ated to Bio­lo­gical Phys­ics and Quant­it­at­ive Bio­logy in the out­stand­ing Dresden envir­on­ment.

Tasks: Adapt and fur­ther develop mag­netic micro­droplet tech­niques to study cell and tis­sue mech­an­ics in liv­ing tis­sues (includ­ing devel­op­ing embryos and organoids), and in par­tic­u­lar to study the role of mech­an­ical feed­backs in mul­ti­cel­lu­lar sys­tems. The suc­cess­ful applic­ant will work in a col­lab­or­at­ive envir­on­ment at the Chair of Tis­sue Dynam­ics (Campàs lab), with a highly inter­dis­cip­lin­ary group of research­ers, includ­ing phys­i­cists, engin­eers and bio­lo­gists, as well as in col­lab­or­a­tion with other research groups at the Phys­ics of Life Excel­lence Cluster and at the Max Planck Insti­tute for Cell Bio­logy and Genet­ics.

Requirements:

A uni­versity and a PhD degree in Phys­ics (or related fields, includ­ing Bio­logy or Engin­eer­ing) is required. Pre­vi­ous exper­i­ence in bio­lo­gical phys­ics, instru­ment­a­tion, soft-mat­ter phys­ics, cell bio­logy, organoids or other mul­ti­cel­lu­lar sys­tems will be con­sidered pos­it­ively.
