The mission of the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) as a nationally and internationally active research institute is to deliver solutions for an ecologically, economically and socially sustainable agriculture – together with society. ZALF is a member of the Leibniz Association and is located in Müncheberg (approx. 35 minutes by regional train from Berlin-Lichtenberg). The institute also maintains locations in Dedelow and Paulinenaue.

Student assistant (f/m/d)

The Isotope Biogeochemistry and Gas Fluxes group is looking for a student assistant to support field and laboratory work in various projects investigating fluxes and pools within the water cycle. The project aims to obtain a comprehensive picture of the processes related to the cycling of water by using stable isotope techniques in agricultural soils and plants. Specifically, we want to obtain a comprehensive understanding of plant water use in an Agroforestry setting focusing on the impact of tree rows on the ecosystem water balance, also in the context of climate change.

We are offering a position for 12 months (extension possible), starting earliest 1st December (40-80h per month) located at ZALF in Müncheberg a Student assistant (f/m/d).

Working field:

  • assistance during laboratory and field experiments related to the water cycling using stable isotope techniques
  • organization and preparation of soil and plant for basic and stable isotope analyses
  • laboratory based cryogenic extraction of water from soils and plant material
  • assistance during laboratory stable water isotope analysis

Requirements:

  • student in hydrology, agriculture, biology, geo-ecology or related disciplines at a German university
  • work independently with high reliability
  • first experience in the laboratory and field is an advantage
  • driver license is an advantage
