Work­ing field:

Involve­ment in Research (and com­ple­ment­ary teach­ing) at the work­group and ana­lysis of eco­nomic and polit­ical eco­nomy ques­tions with regards to the design of energy, cli­mate and struc­tural policies for sus­tain­able devel­op­ment. The focus lies on res­ult­ing dynam­ics for the local, regional, national and inter­na­tional level (espe­cially regard­ing fossil fuels). The pos­i­tion is part of the junior research group „CoalExit - Identi­fy­ing Build­ing Blocks for Future Regional Trans­form­a­tion Frame­works“, which is coordin­ated by TU Ber­lin together with HU Ber­lin, DIW Ber­lin and the Her­tie School of Gov­ernance. The junior research group ana­lyses, amongst oth­ers, the ques­tion on how global con­sump­tion of coal can be reduced by adequate energy and cli­mate policy to con­tain the con­sequences of cli­mate change. A spe­cial focus lies on oppor­tun­it­ies to struc­ture a socially accept­able coal phase-out for Ger­many. Build­ing on this ana­lysis, the trans­fer­ab­il­ity of res­ults will be ana­lyzed for the case study coun­tries India, China, South Africa and Columbia. In par­al­lel, the implic­a­tions for the inter­na­tional coal mar­ket will be invest­ig­ated. The com­ple­tion of a PhD is inten­ded.

  • Can­did­ates must have com­pleted an uni­versity degree (Dip­lom, Mas­ter or equi­val­ent) in eco­nom­ics (or busi­ness engin­eer­ing, sus­tain­able man­age­ment, etc.) or related fields (e.g. polit­ical sci­ences or energy eco­nom­ics)
  • Very good study res­ults desir­able
  • Know­ledge about the rel­ev­ant the­or­et­ical areas
  • Exper­i­ences in numer­ical mod­el­ling or empir­ical social sci­ences and the imple­ment­a­tion of case stud­ies in the field of sus­tain­ab­il­ity
  • Very good Eng­lish and very good Ger­man lan­guage skills
