The exten­sion of the Inter­net into the phys­ical world (Inter­net of Things) requires the integ­ra­tion of Web, data­base, dis­trib­uted sys­tems, and net­work­ing research along with light-weight semantics and linked open data as the new gen­eral-pur­pose data-integ­ra­tion layer. Top­ics of interest (non-exclus­ive) are linked data and semantics for the IoT, scal­able query pro­cessing, cross-layer approaches (net­work, mid­dle­ware, data­base, Linked Open Data), mobile applic­a­tions (Android), etc.

Work­ing field:

The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate should be bound to become a leader in research. We strongly encour­age applic­a­tions with the goal of build­ing up inde­pend­ent research groups In addi­tion to research tasks the can­did­ate is expec­ted to par­ti­cip­ate in teach­ing.


  • suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) and PhD in a rel­ev­ant area of com­puter sci­ence or a closely related area
  • demon­strated excel­lence in research in large-scale dis­trib­uted inform­a­tion sys­tems, stream data­bases, man­age­ment of time-depend­ent inform­a­tion, stream query pro­cessing sys­tems, proven­ance
  • know­ledge of semantic web tech­no­lo­gies and linked open data are assets but not a must
  • interest in super­vising mas­ter and PhD can­did­ates
  • interest in guid­ing and man­aging research groups in national and inter­na­tional research pro­jects
  • exper­i­ence in acquir­ing third party funds is desired
  • cre­at­ive think­ing and pro­act­ive work­ing style
  • excel­lent skills in writ­ten and spoken Eng­lish
