The extension of the Internet into the physical world (Internet of Things) requires the integration of Web, database, distributed systems, and networking research along with light-weight semantics and linked open data as the new general-purpose data-integration layer. Topics of interest (non-exclusive) are linked data and semantics for the IoT, scalable query processing, cross-layer approaches (network, middleware, database, Linked Open Data), mobile applications (Android), etc.
The successful candidate should be bound to become a leader in research. We strongly encourage applications with the goal of building up independent research groups In addition to research tasks the candidate is expected to participate in teaching.
successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and PhD in a relevant area of computer science or a closely related area
demonstrated excellence in research in large-scale distributed information systems, stream databases, management of time-dependent information, stream query processing systems, provenance
knowledge of semantic web technologies and linked open data are assets but not a must
interest in supervising master and PhD candidates
interest in guiding and managing research groups in national and international research projects
experience in acquiring third party funds is desired
creative thinking and proactive working style
