The majority of systems and services that are provided by computer science, electrical engineering and information technology finally are directed towards the needs of their human users. To successfully build such systems and services it is essential to investigate and understand users and their behavior when interacting with technology. On the one hand, this understanding allows to derive design principles for human-machine-interfaces and to define requirements concerning the systems and their underlying technologies. On the other hand, new available technologies offer new possibilities regarding the design of such interfaces and the development of new kinds of interaction.
The Quality and Usability Lab is part of the TU Berlin’s Faculty IV and deals with the design and evaluation of human-machine interaction. Here at the Q&U Lab the main subjects of our research are human perception, aspects of technical systems that are related to the interaction as well as interaction design.
The advertised position includes participation in the development of an open-science-platform for research data, especially language data. The platform is intended to allow the interactive curation of research data and to demonstrate open science in relation to concrete usage scenarios in the everyday work of researchers in various disciplines. Specifically it involves the implementation of a graphical user interface (for the search, analysis and visualization of research data), various basic functions, the connection to external data and knowledge sources, as well as the integration of existing demonstrators. The project is being carried out in close cooperation with Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz GmbH (DFKI); the topic can provide a basis for a doctoral dissertation.
The project in particular includes the following tasks:
Development and implementation of an open science platform for research data based on already existing components
Collection of relevant approaches and systems
Selection of suitable technologies, frameworks and interfaces
Collaboration with colleagues in relevant regional initiatives
Research, publication and presentation of research results in scientific journals and at conferences
The opportunity for working on a doctoral dissertation is given
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in computer science, computer engineering, computer linguistics, language technology, or a related fields of study
Experience in the realization of web applications and knowledge of current frameworks (backend and frontend programming, ideally full-stack)
Knowledge of the following areas is of advantage: Semantic Web and Linked Data; Research Data Management; Digital Humanities; Metadata and related standards, knowledge graphs, ontologies
Ability to work independently and purposefully
Strong communication and cooperation skills
Very good English language skills, fluent German language skills
