Position in the context of the SFB 1114 "Scaling Cascades in Complex Systems"
The goal of this project is the development and theoretical study of quantitative characterizations of self-similar and intermittent turbulence structures based on advanced mathematical data analysis such as shearlet analysis and machine learning techniques. The numerical side will be based on Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) data of turbulent flows as well as observational data from atmospheric turbulence. The project relies on the following mathematical concepts: deep neural networks, Fourier analysis, machine learning, multiscale analysis, sparse approximation, turbulent flow, wavelet and shearlet transform. Successful candidates are expected to pursue mathematical and interdisciplinary research on the international level, to publish the results in international scientific journals and to present the results on national and international conferences and workshops.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in Mathematics or a related area.
Solid background in applied harmonic analysis, functional analysis, machine learning, and/or mathematical data science, interest in collaboration with applied sciences, English proficiency in spoken and written.
