Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) gGmbH
MCC was founded in 2012 by Stiftung Mercator and Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and we are affiliated with Technical University Berlin since 2014. MCC has seven working groups which addresses the grand challenges of climate change and of governing the global commons. Our research is rooted in the social sciences, primarily in economics. We provide scientific policy advice and aim to identify policy-relevant solutions. Cooperation with high-profile international partner organizations provides a network of excellence which fosters high quality research at MCC. Within a few years, MCC has established itself prominently in the climate policy research landscape, ranked as No. 1 among European climate think tanks.

The Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change (MCC) in Berlin is looking for a research assistant to support an exciting scientific project that evaluates causal effects of policies supporting the electric vehicle revolution. To this end, we combine big data with rigorous econometric program evaluation. Our goal is to find policy solutions that effectively foster socially inclusive and sustainable mobility.
prepare rich data sets such as GPS movement data (big data) or administrative microdata
get involved with programming and econometric modeling
prepare your master thesis (optional, but desirable)
The ideal candidate
has experience working with large data
has strong programming skills, ideally with R (alternatively Stata)
has a strong interest in econometrics and quasi-experimental methods
has interest in or experience with machine learning
has interest in or knowledge of Geospatial Information Systems (GIS)
enjoys working with others in a cooperative environment
