We are an interdisciplinary lab at the Neuroscience Research Center

HiWi position: Research in fish vocalisation behaviour

Working field:

  • Basic handling of fish
  • Setting up and performing behavioral experiments (acoustic communication in fish)
  • Basic analysis/preprocessing of acquired data
  • Negotiable working hours, although most experiments will need to be performed in the morning and early afternoon over consecutive days

Requirements:

  • Strong interest in animal behavior
  • Basic programming experience (ideally in MATLAB and/or Python)
  • Currently enrolled as a university student (BSc or MSc)

What we offer:

Our lab is studying the tropical fish species (Danionella translucida) as a new model organism for neuroscience because it is not only very small, but also transparent. This allows us to use optical methods to measure their brain activity. Moreover, this fish displays fascinating social behaviors, including acoustic communication. We are looking for support in setting up and running behavioral experiments to study these social behaviors.

Join our group of biologists, physicists, neuroscientists and engineers in studying brain circuits underlying vertebrate communication. Based on the Charité Mitte campus, we offer flexible contracts between 40-80 hours per month.
