Junior Pro­fess­or­ship (W1) for „Live­stock Gen­om­ics“

Work­ing field:

The pro­fess­or­ship is to be filled by 01.10.2021. The pro­fess­or­ship is fun­ded by the W1/W2-pos­i­tion pro­gramme for female sci­ent­ists (women's pro­mo­tion pro­gramme of Hum­boldt-Uni­versität zu Ber­lin).This is a W3 ten­ure track pos­i­tion. In order to verify whether the indi­vidual per­form­ance meets the require­ments of a per­man­ent employ­ment, an eval­u­ation pro­cess will be opened not later than five years of ser­vice. Ten­ure track pro­fess­ors at the HU Ber­lin are expec­ted to carry out research and teach, as well as be act­ive on vari­ous uni­versity com­mit­tees and acquire lead­er­ship and man­age­ment skills. We are look­ing for an inter­na­tion­ally recog­nized young researcher with a strong sci­entific track record doc­u­mented by pro­jects and pub­lic­a­tions who will com­ple­ment the Thaer Insti­tute in the field of farm animal gen­om­ics. The pro­fess­or­ship shall con­trib­ute to the trans­form­a­tion pro­cess in live­stock pro­duc­tion and resource con­ser­va­tion through appro­pri­ate breed­ing meas­ures. The research focus shall lie in gen­omic animal breed­ing for the pro­mo­tion of resi­li­ence, animal health and resource con­ser­va­tion.
The com­mit­ment to cooper­ate closely with other dis­cip­lines within and out­side of the Fac­ulty of Life Sci­ences, in par­tic­u­lar with the Food­Ber­lin Research Net­work and the Depart­ment of Veter­in­ary Medi­cine of the Freie Uni­versität is expec­ted.
Teach­ing is under­taken in gen­eral and spe­cial live­stock breed­ing under­gradu­ate and gradu­ate courses.
The applic­ants must meet the legal require­ments for pro­fess­or­ial appoint­ments in accord­ance with § 102c com­bined with § 102a of the 'Ber­liner Hoch­schul­ge­setz'.
HU is seek­ing to increase the pro­por­tion of women in research and teach­ing, and spe­cific­ally encour­ages qual­i­fied female schol­ars to apply. Research­ers from abroad are wel­come to apply.
