Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung - Section S.3 "eScience“ in Berlin-Steglitz
The Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung (BAM) is a materials research organization in Germany. Our mission is to ensure safety in technology and chemistry. We perform research and testing in materials science, materials engineering and chemistry to improve the safety of products and processes. At BAM we do research that matters. Our work covers a broad array of topics in the focus areas of energy, infrastructure, environment, materials, and analytical sciences.
Working field:
In an interdisciplinary project for the automated production of materials, a compact robotics platform will be built that will assist with important tasks in material synthesis. This includes handling liquids and solids, transporting vials and substrates with a robotic arm, and basic synthesis and analysis.
The compact robotic platform is currently under construction and further work is required to design this platform, in addition to using the new hardware to perform sample preparation tasks in collaboration with our researchers. The work will involve hardware integration tasks, where methods need to be programmed to communicate with hardware components using a manufacturer-specified protocol.
The young and agile project team of scientists and staff is involved in the construction of the robotics platform in an interdisciplinary way. Hardware-related programming, for example using an Arduino/Python framework, will be used to control the devices.
