In an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary pro­ject for the auto­mated pro­duc­tion of mater­i­als, a com­pact robot­ics plat­form will be built that will assist with import­ant tasks in mater­ial syn­thesis. This includes hand­ling liquids and solids, trans­port­ing vials and sub­strates with a robotic arm, and basic syn­thesis and ana­lysis.

The com­pact robotic plat­form is cur­rently under con­struc­tion and fur­ther work is required to design this plat­form, in addi­tion to using the new hard­ware to per­form sample pre­par­a­tion tasks in col­lab­or­a­tion with our research­ers. The work will involve hard­ware integ­ra­tion tasks, where meth­ods need to be pro­grammed to com­mu­nic­ate with hard­ware com­pon­ents using a man­u­fac­turer-spe­cified pro­tocol.

The young and agile pro­ject team of sci­ent­ists and staff is involved in the con­struc­tion of the robot­ics plat­form in an inter­dis­cip­lin­ary way. Hard­ware-related pro­gram­ming, for example using an Ardu­ino/Python frame­work, will be used to con­trol the devices.

• Hard­ware-related pro­gram­ming in Python and/or C++
• Pro­gram­ming using the phys­ical com­put­ing plat­form Ardu­ino
• Trans­fer or refact­or­ing of exist­ing source code in Python via Jupy­ter note­books
• Sup­port­ing fur­ther tasks in the field of data sci­ence

• Stu­dent of a com­puter sci­ence, engin­eer­ing, or com­par­able sub­ject, prefer­ably with a bach­elor's degree
• Very good know­ledge of rel­ev­ant pro­gram­ming lan­guages such as Python and/or C++
• Exper­i­ence with col­lab­or­at­ive soft­ware pro­jects using ver­sion con­trol sys­tems (e.g., Git) is desir­able
• Ini­tial exper­i­ence with Ardu­ino is desir­able
• Ini­tial exper­i­ence with com­puter vis­ion lib­rar­ies (e.g., OpenCV or skim­age) is desir­able
• Interest in sci­entific work, as well as in top­ics such as hard­ware-related pro­gram­ming and tech­nical com­puter sci­ence
• Good know­ledge of Eng­lish
• Abil­ity to work (as well as organ­ize and struc­ture tasks) inde­pend­ently

You are enrolled at a Ger­man uni­versity for the period of employ­ment.
The max­imum work­ing time with a part-time job is 80 hours per month.
