Tech­ni­sche Uni­ver­si­tät Dres­den - Faculty of Envi­ron­men­tal Sci­en­ces, Depart­ment of Hydro Sci­en­ces, Insti­tute of Waste Manage­ment and Cir­cu­lar Eco­nomy

The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

Rese­arch Asso­ciate

The pro­ject posi­tion is star­ting imme­dia­tely. The posi­tion com­pri­ses 50% of the full­time wee­kly hours and is limi­ted until Janu­ary 31, 2024. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz - WissZeitVG). The posi­tion is part of the BMBF-fun­ded pro­ject “Urban Water Manage­ment: Ger­man Exper­tise for Kazakh Cities”. The over­all goal of the pro­ject is to deve­lop alter­na­tive solu­ti­ons for sustainable manage­ment of urban water resour­ces in Kazakhstan. For this, a vir­tual city model will be con­cep­tua­li­zed and demons­tra­ted at a test site in Nur-Sul­tan city. The model will focus on sce­n­a­rios-based esti­ma­ti­ons of dif­fe­rent urban water flu­xes as well as all natu­ral inflows, out­flows, and chan­ges in sto­rage in the urban water basin.

Work­ing field:

Your main task in the pro­ject is the deve­lop­ment and imple­men­ta­tion of necessary soft­ware infra­st­ruc­ture for the rea­li­za­tion of the vir­tual city model in Kazakhstan. The work will focus on fur­ther deve­lop­ment of the exis­ting ground­wa­ter simu­la­tion plat­form www.inowas.com and will con­sist in both backend and front­end deve­lop­ment.

Require­ments:

uni­ver­sity degree in envi­ron­men­tal sci­en­ces, geo­in­for­ma­tics, app­lied infor­ma­tics; expert know­ledge in usual web pro­gramming lan­guages such as PHP, Java­script and Typescript and front­end frame­works such as Reac­tJS, com­pre­hen­sive expe­ri­ence in nume­ri­cal ground­wa­ter model­ling, pre­fer­a­bly MOD­FLOW and FloPy or simi­lar; high capa­city for team work and com­mu­ni­ca­tion skills; busi­ness flu­ent Eng­lish skills. Know­ledge in Ger­man lan­guage would be advan­ta­ge­ous.
