The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

The posi­tion is star­ting Sep­tem­ber 1, 2021. The posi­tion is offe­red until August 31, 2024. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (WissZeitVG). The posi­tion aims at obtai­ning fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD or habi­li­ta­tion the­sis). Balan­cing family and career is an important issue. The TU Dres­den Immer­sive Expe­ri­ence Lab (IXLAB.io) con­ducts inter­di­sci­pli­nary rese­arch into the per­cep­tual foun­da­ti­ons, app­li­ca­ti­ons and crea­tive pos­si­bi­li­ties of immer­sive media. Our work com­bi­nes ele­ments of per­cep­tual and com­pu­ter sci­ence, engi­nee­ring and art and design. Cur­rent pro­jects include immer­sive psy­cho­the­rapy, data visua­li­sa­tion, archi­tec­ture, embo­died arti­fi­cial intel­li­gence and a-life, immer­sive thea­tre and music and rese­arch in mul­ti­sen­sory per­cep­tion. We are see­king a talen­ted com­pu­ter sci­en­tist or engi­neer to con­duct inno­va­tive rese­arch in the field of immer­sive media, using state-of-the-art vir­tual and aug­men­ted rea­lity sys­tems.

Work­ing field:

  • Col­lab­or­at­ing with sci­ent­ists, engin­eers and artists from vari­ous dis­cip­lines to develop immers­ive exper­i­ments, applic­a­tions and artistic cre­ations
  • lead­ing devel­op­ment of a large multi-user mixed-real­ity plat­form
  • main­ten­ance of tech­nical facil­it­ies and infra­struc­ture
  • pub­lish­ing and present research res­ults at inter­na­tional con­fer­ences and in aca­demic journ­als, super­vising stu­dent employ­ees, teach­ing sem­inars and tutori­als and super­vising stu­dent research pro­jects.
The can­did­ate will have the oppor­tun­ity to develop his or her own courses.

Require­ments:

  • uni­versity degree and - if applic­able - PhD degree in com­puter sci­ence or engin­eer­ing or related sub­jects.
  • Strong C++ or C# and GPU pro­gram­ming and real-time 3D graph­ics and game-engine exper­i­ence (e.g. Unreal, Unity).
  • Flu­ency with writ­ten and spoken Eng­lish (know­ledge of Ger­man is not neces­sary, but advant­age­ous).

Desir­able skills and exper­i­ence:
  • vir­tual or aug­men­ted real­ity devel­op­ment
  • exper­i­ence work­ing in or lead­ing inter­dis­cip­lin­ary teams on artistic or sci­entific pro­jects
  • exper­i­ence with 3D track­ing sys­tems; machine learn­ing
  • 3D mod­el­ling and 3D pipeline work­flows (e.g. Blender, Maya, Houd­ini)
  • pub­lic­a­tions in rel­ev­ant con­fer­ences or journ­als.
