Postdoctoral Scientist (f/m/d) for Perovskite-based Tandem Solar Cells

Working field:

Helmholtz Center Berlin (HZB) is a research center for fundamental and applied research in the field of energy materials. HZB operates advanced analytics, such as the large synchrotron facility BESSY II. For next generation photovoltaics (PV), HZB performs materials research, device development up to industrial level and operates baselines for high-efficiency solar cells based on e.g. perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells above 29%. As next generation thin film tandem technology, we focus on perovskite/perovskite multi-junctions. The research topics are spanning the entire field from fundamental materials research, stability, device integration, scaling to industrial size, PV testing in the field and technology transfer to industry. To reach our ambitious goals, we are looking for experienced scientists/postdocs in the field of perovskite solar cells.

  • Manufacturing of high efficiency perovskite/perovskite tandem solar cells
  • Specific device characterization, optical simulation and experimental loss analysis of single and tandem solar cells
  • Hands-on processing of individual process steps
  • Coordinating development work and experiments in cooperation within HZB and other institutes as well as industrial partners
  • Publication of the scientific results as well as project proposal writing and acquisition of new third party funded projects


  • Completed PhD in Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or related fields
  • Sound background in semiconductor technology physics of solar cells
  • Hands-on experience in thin-film and/or solar-cell processing in perovskite technology
  • Excellent analytic skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Solar cell enthusiasm with drive towards high efficiency and team spirit

Fixed term contract for 24 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
