Our department is looking for a research assistant for Open6GHub project. Open6GHub is a highly innovative project funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with the aim of making contributions in an European context to a global 6G R&D process and standard that strengthens the technological sovereignty and the position of Germany and Europe in the international competition for the 6G: the next generation of communication networks, expected to be deployed from 2030 on.
The research assistant is responsible for the implementation of the research activities of the Technische Universität Berlin (TUB), focusing on network performance optimizations, including:
Study of the state of the art in software networks optimization
Development of new design and concepts for network function placement and backhaul interconnectivity
Development of new algorithms for reliable data exchanges across networks
Implementation of practical validation tools based on third party software
Validating the new developed concepts and mechanisms
Presentation of the project results in journals, international and national conferences
A PhD thesis preparation stemming from the work is possible and highly suggested.
Successfully completed scientific university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in Computer Science or equivalent (solid foundations of distributed computing and networking)
very good German language skills
very good English language skills
strong knowledge in software networks and in communication systems
good knowledge in algorithms for networking
practical knowledge in prototype development
good knowledge in solutions evaluation and validation
basics in handling Linux systems and C programming
basics in scientific work and writing
Experience in one or more of the following areas are of advantage:
R, Matlab, Phython Pandas or any other know data processing tools
Network simulation environments such as OmNET++ or NS3
Knowledge of monitoring and data acquisition tools
Practical knowledge of SD-WAN tools, VPN, WireGuard, etc.
5G networks, wireless communication, especially software implementation of 5G core network
Practical knowledge in development, installation and demonstration of testbeds and prototypes
Practical knowledge in optimization algorithms for resource sharing
The current funding phase ends on 31.07.2025, an extension after successful evaluation is being pursued.
