Working field:

Research within the project „On the Expressivity of Neural Networks" at the Institute of Mathematics, Combinatorical Optimization and Graph Algorithms Group ( in the frame of the Cluster of Excellence MATH+. The tasks of the successful applicant include the study of Neural Networks from a mathematical perspective, using methods from Combinatorical Optimization and Discrete Geometry, as well as the development of Efficient Algorithms that can be implemented in the form of Neural Networks. PhD thesis preparation is possible.


  • successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in Mathematics or Computer Science; clearly above-average grades are desired
  • profound knowledge in Algorithmic Discrete Mathematics and deepened knowledge of Combinatorical Optimization and Discrete Geometry
  • good communication skills
  • good command of German and/or English required; willingness to learn either English or German is expected
