Postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Biomolecular Modelling Group (Institute of Chemistry) at the Technische Universität Berlin. Research will take place in Berlin, Germany within a close collaboration with the University of Kentucky (USA) under the joint supervision of Prof. M. A. Mroginski (TU Berlin) and Prof. A.-F. Miller (Kentucky).
The object of the study is an electron transfer flavoprotein containing two non-covalently bound FADs. The goals of the study include elucidation of proton transfer coupled to electron transfer and attendant reorganization of hydrogen bond networks that could trigger conformational change in the protein, upon reduction of one or other of the two flavins. The candidate will apply molecular dynamics methods to investigate the possibility of domain-scale motion associated with reorganization of hydrogen bond networks, and ab initio methods to investigate possible coupling between these and electronic properties and redox states of the flavin.
Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) and PhD in physics, chemistry, biochemistry or in bioinformatics; experience with computational methods such as QMMM and MD. Strong background in programming and administration of HPC systems. Very good command of the English language (written and spoken); willingness to learn German is expected. Desired qualifications: Experience with ab initio calculations of excited states and prediction of residue pKs are desirable.
