Science of Intelligence is Berlin-based research network of six partner organisations (Technische Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Freie Universität Berlin, Universität Potsdam, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and Max Planck Institute for Human Development), founded in 2019 and funded by the German Research Foundation as part of Germany’s Excellence Initiative. Together, international scientists in interdisciplinary research teams investigate the principles shared by all forms of intelligence in order to ethically and responsibly apply them to the creation of intelligent technologies.
To further strengthen our interdisciplinary team, we are looking for a Lab Manager to operate our infrastructures (Visual Capture Lab, EEG Lab, Motion Capture System, Robotics Lab & Workshops) to start as soon as possible.

Working field:

  • Ensuring the smooth running of the lab; understanding and analysing the needs, requirements and priorities of the scientists, ensuring the feasibility of experiments, ensuring the completion of research projects/milestones
  • Expanding laboratory facilities, procuring and assembling equipment, commissioning new equipment, maintaining and documenting equipment
  • Developing, setting up and adapting experimental set-ups for the study of intelligent behaviour in synthetic and natural agents
  • Instruction in health and safety, equipment operation and work procedures
  • Support for network, server administration and IT infrastructure

Requirements:

  • Successfully completed scientific university studies (master's degree, diploma or equivalent) in relevant fields such as neuroscience, medical technology, bionics/robotics, computer science, technical computer science or electrical engineering.
  • Specialised knowledge and extensive practical experience in dealing with mobile manipulators, humanoid robots, EEG devices, VR setups, motion capture systems, camera systems, computing clusters, networks, data archives, measurement technology
  • Experience in equipment procurement and project & science management
  • Excellent hardware and software skills (Bash/Unix shell, Java, PHP, R, Matlab, Python), experience in operating computer networks
  • Software engineering experience is an advantage
  • very good English and good German language skills
  • structured, proactive and analytical working method, advanced scientific knowledge and service orientation

We offer:
  • Salary from € 49,000 to € 60,000 depending on professional training and the extent of professional experience
  • initially limited until 31.12.2025, extension possible
  • 30 days vacation, plus 24.12. and 31.12. as non-working days
