The pro­ject SALSAT (Spec­trum Ana­Lysis SATel­lite) developes a nanosatel­lite for in-orbit spec­trum ana­lysis of dif­fer­ent com­mu­nic­a­tion bands. The satel­lite fea­tures three sci­entific pay­loads. The primary pay­load fea­tures a pre­voi­usly developed and space qual­i­fied spec­trum ana­lyzer. The device is based on Soft­ware Defined Radio tech­no­logy. The pay­load shall be util­ized for the first time on the SALSAT mis­sion. The goal is to ana­lyze com­mu­nic­a­tion fre­quen­cies in the UHF, VHF and S band and detect poten­tial inter­fer­ences. The sec­ond­ary pay­loads are a cam­era in the visual spec­trum as well as an novel actu­ator for atti­tude con­trol. The soft­ware developer searched for in this job open­ing shall adapt the exist­ing elec­tron­ics (sub-)sys­tems of the TUBiX10 bus satel­lite (developed at the TU Ber­lin) for the SALSAT mis­sion. Elec­trical cir­cuits of exist­ing sub­sys­tems have to be adap­ted. Fur­ther­more, the elec­trical hard­ware of the primary and sec­ond­ary pay­loads needs to be developed. After the suc­cess­full launch of SALSAT (planned Q1/2020) a com­mis­sion­ing and oper­a­tion phase is planned.

Work­ing field:

  • par­ti­cip­a­tion in the research pro­ject SALSAT (Spec­trum Ana­Lysis SATel­lite)
  • devel­op­ment, pro­duc­tion and test of elec­trical sub­sys­tems (e.g. Pay­load Data Hand­ling board)
o devel­op­ment of block dia­grams, selec­tion of com­pon­ents
o devel­op­ment of schem­at­ics and PCB lay­outs (rout­ing)
o pro­gram­ming of firm­ware for PCB com­pon­ents (e.g. micro con­trol­lers)
o func­tional tests of developed cir­cuitry / sub­sys­tems
  • devel­op­ment and test of firm­ware for SALSAT sub­sys­tems
  • veri­fic­a­tion & test of the satel­lite on com­pon­ent- and (sub-)sys­tem level
  • con­duc­tion of the test and launch cam­paign of SALSAT


  • suc­cess­fully com­pleted uni­versity degree (Mas­ter, Dip­lom or equi­val­ent) in aerospace tech­no­logy, inform­at­ics, tech­nical inform­at­ics, elec­trical engin­eer­ing or sim­ilar
  • in-depth know­ledge in the field of elec­trical engin­eer­ing and/or cir­cuit board design
  • excel­lent skills in the cre­at­ing schem­at­ics and lay­outs
  • high motiv­a­tion, pro­act­ive and inde­pend­ent approach to work
  • excel­lent Ger­man and/or Eng­lish skills
bene­fi­cial exper­i­ences:
  • exper­i­ence in the lay­out and rout­ing soft­ware EAGLE or ALTIUM Designer
  • exper­i­ence in the pro­duc­tion and/or fit­ting of cir­cuit boards
  • expert­ise in the field of sig­nal pro­cessing (FPGAs, Mik­rocon­trol­ler, Fil­ter, FFT,…)
  • pro­gram­ming skills of firm- and/or gate­w­are / exper­i­ences in soft­ware devel­op­ment
  • exper­i­ences in space pro­jects, satel­lite tech­no­logy or satel­lite com­mu­nic­a­tion
