TMG Research gGmbH is currently looking for an Intern (f/m/x) to support TMG Research’s new work applied research programme on urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA). The programme is a response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on urban and peri-urban food systems. Physical distancing measures hit the informal sector particularly hard, food access has become a tremendous challenge for many poor households. Current investments to meliorate the impact of the pandemic offer the opportunity to also use them to make urban and peri-urban food systems more sustainable and inclusive. Work on external risks including a focus on locusts will add to the project´s work on resilience.
This project is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
TMG Research is a sustainability Think Tank that is based in Berlin. Our work programmes focus on human rights-based land governance, sustainability transformations of our food systems, and ocean governance. Digitalization and sustainability governance are cross-cutting themes. TMG Research is a member of the Think Sustainable Europe network of European Sustainability Think Tanks.
We are looking for a full-time Intern (f/m/x) to support the different work streams of the UPA-project. The candidate would:
Support the planning and implementation of research activities
Support the coordination of meetings of our national stakeholder groups and the preparation of stakeholder workshops, e.g. plan meetings, support feedback processes, provide technical back-stopping
Support the writing processes for blogs, and short positioning pieces, e.g. background research, co-writing with national actors
Support the documentation and reporting of the UPA-project and other TMG’s activities.
Master’s degree or post-graduate student with a focus on international as well as interdisciplinary studies, e.g. Development or Urban Studies, Social Anthropology or related field in sustainability science
Knowledge in the areas of sustainable and inclusive development, food systems, land management/rights, smallholder agriculture, especially in the global south
Knowledge/experience with urban/peri-urban agriculture and respective business models and technologies would be a strong asset
Strong analytical skill
Excellent writing and communication skills in English
Good working knowledge of French is a considerable advantage
Experience (working) in Sub-Saharan Africa, or with African partners would be a further advantage
