Vice Pres­id­ent for Admin­is­tra­tion - pay scale B5

The pos­i­tion com­mences 01/07/2021 and is ini­tially offered for a period of five years. The vice pres­id­ent for admin­is­tra­tion is employed on the basis of a pub­lic law con­tract with an ini­tial term of five years. Remu­ner­a­tion is accord­ing to pay scale B5.

Work­ing field:

Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Ber­lin is a major uni­versity of tech­no­logy with a rich tra­di­tion and an inter­na­tional repu­ta­tion. Some 33,500 stu­dents study here in more than 140 degree pro­grams and the Uni­versity is involved in around 140 inter­na­tional cooper­a­tion pro­grams. TU Ber­lin cur­rently employs 370 pro­fess­ors and 7,600 staff in aca­demic as well as admin­is­trat­ive and tech­nical pos­i­tions. The Uni­versity can point to out­stand­ing achieve­ments in research and teach­ing, an innov­at­ive pro­gram of inter­na­tion­al­iz­a­tion, a wide range of spin-offs and a mod­ern, digital, ser­vice-based admin­is­tra­tion.

The vice pres­id­ent for admin­is­tra­tion is a full-time mem­ber of the Exec­ut­ive Board and sup­ports the pres­id­ent in the exe­cu­tion of his/her duties. The vice pres­id­ent for admin­is­tra­tion is in charge of the day-to-day admin­is­tra­tion and is bound by the dir­ect­ives of the pres­id­ent. The vice pres­id­ent for admin­is­tra­tion is fur­ther respons­ible for the budget and is head of the Uni­versity admin­is­tra­tion cov­er­ing the depart­ments of stu­dent affairs, human resources and law, fin­ance, build­ing and ser­vices man­age­ment, research, and inter­na­tional affairs.

Require­ments:

The post holder must be qual­i­fied to hold judi­cial office or meet the require­ments of the Civil Ser­vice Career Path Act (Lauf­bahnge­setz) for second entry-level office in career group 2 of the Gen­eral Admin­is­trat­ive Ser­vice or the require­ments stated in Sec­tion 24 (1) of the Civil Ser­vice Career Path Act and have acquired the aptitude and expert­ise required for the office through at least three years’ pro­fes­sional work in pub­lic ser­vice.

The post holder must have a good under­stand­ing of the struc­tural organ­iz­a­tion of uni­versit­ies as well as sci­ence man­age­ment at both national and inter­na­tional level and pos­sess excel­lent know­ledge and rel­ev­ant exper­i­ence of head­ing (uni­versity) stra­tegic pro­jects, includ­ing in an inter­na­tional con­text. The pos­i­tion requires exper­i­ence in the area of qual­ity man­age­ment, par­tic­u­larly regard­ing top­ics of cur­rent import­ance such as digit­al­iz­a­tion of admin­is­trat­ive ser­vices and sus­tain­ab­il­ity. Excel­lent social com­pet­ence, the abil­ity to integ­rate and innov­ate, gender and diversity com­pet­ence, the abil­ity to lead and inspire staff, con­flict man­age­ment skills and a good know­ledge of Eng­lish are essen­tial require­ments for the pos­i­tion. The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate is expec­ted to pos­sess an under­stand­ing of (Ger­man) higher edu­ca­tion law, (Ger­man) budget law, (Ger­man) pub­lic law, staff and organ­iz­a­tional devel­op­ment, as well as proven exper­i­ence in change man­age­ment.

We are look­ing for a team-ori­ented, com­mu­nic­at­ive and dynamic per­son­al­ity for this respons­ible pos­i­tion as well as someone with many years’ exper­i­ence of man­age­ment in pos­i­tions of lead­er­ship, ideally within sci­ence admin­is­tra­tion. The vice pres­id­ent for admin­is­tra­tion is expec­ted to work in a trust­ing exchange with the Exec­ut­ive Board and other lead­er­ship per­son­ell to ensure the effect­ive­ness of the Uni­versity’s wide-ran­ging admin­is­trat­ive work and develop effi­cient and innov­at­ive organ­iz­a­tional struc­tures.

The vice pres­id­ent for admin­is­tra­tion is selec­ted upon the recom­mend­a­tion of the pres­id­ent by the Board of Trust­ees and appoin­ted by the appro­pri­ate mem­ber of the Ber­lin Sen­ate.
