Technische Universität Berlin, Faculty VI – Planning Building Environment – currently has a vacancy at the Institute of Architecture for a

tenure track professorship, remuneration group W2, fixed term for 5 years, to be continued as a lifetime professorship, remuneration group W3

in “Climate-Oriented Urban Design and Urban Systems”.

This professorship should be seen in the context of TU Berlin’s goal to recruit and advance junior scholars in the early stage of their career. The tenure track professorship is limited to five years. A lifelong professorship will be offered conditional upon the fulfillment of the determined evaluation criteria and hiring requirements for a lifelong professorship. Work­ing field:

As a professor of climate-oriented urban design and urban systems, your area of work will be urban planning and design with a focus on climate-adaptive and climate-protective measures with special consideration for urban infrastructure systems and their digital or data-based development and management. The position holder is expected to make innovative contributions to current developments in this field in research and teaching. The development of at least one other area of expertise is expected and will be taken into account when defining the evaluation criteria.

Require­ments:

The candidate must fulfill the hiring requirements pursuant to Sections 100 ff. Berlin State Higher Education Act. Of particular importance are a university degree in architecture and/or urban design or a related discipline with a proven focus on urban design, a strong aptitude for research in the mentioned field demonstrated, as rule, by the quality of a doctorate / PhD, further research achievements in the mentioned field as well as teaching skills demonstrated by a teaching portfolio (further information available on the TUB website, https://www.tu-berlin.de/menue/einrichtungen/praesidium/projekte_des_praesidiums/neuberufene/berufungsportal/bewerbung/lehrportfolio/parameter/en/).

As evidence of their qualification for the professorship, applicants are to submit proof of skills and expertise in at least two of the following areas: an in-depth understanding of urban environments as complex systems; knowledge of and contributions to the design of urban spaces and the development of urban infrastructures in the context of climate adaptation and climate protection; contributions to the digitalization of urban planning, construction and organizational processes; critical reflection of the social, spatial, and political implications of technology development.
