The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

The posi­tion is star­ting June 1, 2021 for 3 years with 85 % of the full-time wee­kly hours in the field of Enzyme Engi­nee­ring and Meta­bo­lic Engi­nee­ring, sub­ject to the avai­la­bi­lity of resour­ces. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz - WissZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD).

Work­ing field:

You will be invol­ved in our work in a pro­ject with inter­na­tio­nal part­ners on the deve­lop­ment of bac­te­rial strains for the micro­bial pro­duc­tion of value-added che­mi­cals. Your tasks will include mole­cu­lar bio­logy and enzy­mo­logy work to deve­lop new enzyme activi­ties that will be used to build new meta­bo­lic pathways. In par­ti­cu­lar, you will deve­lop a new method for scree­ning enzyme vari­ants for impro­ved activi­ties at extre­mely high through­put.

Require­ments:

uni­ver­sity degree (Diploma/Mas­ter) in bio­pro­cess engi­nee­ring, bio­tech­no­logy, bio­che­mi­stry or a com­pa­ra­ble disci­pline. In addi­tion, you should have (or be wil­ling to acquire) solid mathe­ma­ti­cal and sta­tis­ti­cal skills to per­form and eva­luate deep sequen­cing expe­ri­ments.
Prac­ti­cal expe­ri­ence with mole­cu­lar bio­logy tech­ni­ques and/or enzyme cha­rac­te­ri­za­tion is desi­red.
