Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Exzellenzcluster Matters of Activity

The Cluster »Matters of Activity. Image Space Material« aims to create a basis for a new culture of materials. The central vision of the Cluster is to rediscover the analog in the activity of images, spaces and materials in the age of the digital. Biology and technology, mind and material, nature and culture intertwine in a new way. In this context, the interdisciplinary research and development of sustainable practices and structures is a central concern in areas such as architecture and soft robotics, textiles, materials and digital filters, and surgical cutting techniques.

In six projects, more than 40 disciplines systematically investigate design strategies for active materials and structures that adapt to specific requirements and environments. The Cluster focuses on a new role of design, which is emerging in the context of growing diversity and the continuous development of materials and visualization forms in all disciplines.

Student Assistant in the Project »Filtering« (m/f/d)

40h per Month, Limited until 31/12/2022 – MoA_03_2021 – Application Deadline 21 October 2021 – Start of Employment: January 2022

Working field:

The project Filtering, subproject »Digital Filtering: Co-Adaptive Sensemaking Filters« is currently looking for a student assistant in the field of Computer Science/Media Informatics/Data Science/Mathematics or similar.

In the »Digital Filtering« research project, novel interaction concepts in the field of Interactive Machine Learning for qualitative data interpretation are investigated. The research group Human-Centered Computing is in charge of the project. It represents an interdisciplinary team in the field of Collaborative Computing and Human Computer Interaction. The focus is on Interactive Intelligent Systems. We see ourselves as designers of participatory and sustainable technologies that promote human-machine collaboration. Our theory-driven research includes both an empirical and an engineering dimension. Your main task will be to contribute to the design and implementation of user interface prototypes and the use of machine learning methods.

How to apply:

As an interdisciplinary research Cluster, we know that diversity makes us better. It is important to us that our employees not only reflect a broad spectrum of social, personal and cultural backgrounds and life experiences, but also that they can fully contribute to the work environment in their individuality. We particularly welcome applications from women*, people with personal or family migration biographies, and people with diverse skills.

Applications quoting the reference number MoA_03_2021 should be sent to the following address by 21 October:
