Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Exzellenzcluster Matters of Activity
The Cluster »Matters of Activity. Image Space Material« aims to create a basis for a new culture of materials. The central vision of the Cluster is to rediscover the analog in the activity of images, spaces and materials in the age of the digital. Biology and technology, mind and material, nature and culture intertwine in a new way. In this context, the interdisciplinary research and development of sustainable practices and structures is a central concern in areas such as architecture and soft robotics, textiles, materials and digital filters, and surgical cutting techniques.
In six projects, more than 40 disciplines systematically investigate design strategies for active materials and structures that adapt to specific requirements and environments. The Cluster focuses on a new role of design, which is emerging in the context of growing diversity and the continuous development of materials and visualization forms in all disciplines.
Student Assistant in the Project »Filtering« (m/f/d)

The project Filtering, subproject »Digital Filtering: Co-Adaptive Sensemaking Filters« is currently looking for a student assistant in the field of Computer Science/Media Informatics/Data Science/Mathematics or similar.
In the »Digital Filtering« research project, novel interaction concepts in the field of Interactive Machine Learning for qualitative data interpretation are investigated. The research group Human-Centered Computing is in charge of the project. It represents an interdisciplinary team in the field of Collaborative Computing and Human Computer Interaction. The focus is on Interactive Intelligent Systems. We see ourselves as designers of participatory and sustainable technologies that promote human-machine collaboration. Our theory-driven research includes both an empirical and an engineering dimension. Your main task will be to contribute to the design and implementation of user interface prototypes and the use of machine learning methods.
Collaboration in the project »Filtering: Digital Filtering«
Support in the implementation of data processing pipelines with python and common libraries (e.g. scikit-learn, pandas, NumPy)
Support in the conceptual development of interaction concepts for the evaluation and interpretation of the results of data processing pipelines in the context of interactive machine learning
Assistance in the implementation of user interfaces in the form of interactive software prototypes
Literature research and acquisition
Support in the preparation and realization of events (workshops, courses)
Preparation of teaching materials
Support in the evaluation of teaching
Proofreading of texts in German and/or English language
Studies in a field relevant to the area of responsibility: Computer Science/Media Informatics/Data Science/Mathematics or similar
Knowledge of common office programs
Good language skills in English and German
Basic knowledge in the development of Machine Learning Systems with Python (e.g. Scikit-learn, Numpy, Pandas, Tensorflow) desired
Knowledge of human-computer interaction desired
Please note: Student assistant positions can only be awarded to enrolled students in an undergraduate degree program
