commencing at the earliest opportunity.

Working field:

The position and its associated activities will essentially be integrated into the institute’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes through introductory and in-depth modules, which consist of compulsory and elective courses in German and English. The appointee will be expected to offer courses in a number of planned new study programmes in the fields of digitalisation and socioecological transformation, as well as courses for inter-faculty teaching in other planning-, technology- and environment-related study programmes. Demonstrable skills in pedagogy and university didactics are highly desirable.

Applicants are expected to have experience in academic self-administration. Ability to work in a team and a high level of social skills will also be requirements in this position.

Other duties result from the requirements set by § 42 Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz (Higher Education Act of the State of Brandenburg - BbgHG) in conjunction with § 3 BbgHG.

Potential candidates for this position are social scientists who have an outstanding research and teaching record with a special focus on economic and labour sociology. The position of professor of economic and labour sociology is intended to contribute to the university’s research priorities. It will be concerned with the fundamental issues of sociology, as well as with specialisations in at least two of the following areas:

  • Digital technologies in workplaces, organisations and the economy
  • Transformation and structural change in industrial society
  • Transdisciplinary research on innovation processes and knowledge transfer
  • Spatial aspects of work and economy.

Applicants must have an excellent academic record, as demonstrated in particular through publications and third-party funding. An internationally recognized research profile is expected that involves theoretically well-founded empirical analysis of issues in the field of appointment.

Also expected is experience with inter- and transdisciplinary research projects. Experience in the acquisition and realization of third-party funded projects is expected. Fields of research should be relevant for the DFG (German Research Foundation) or similar international research funding organisations. Since internationalisation is a major priority at BTU Cottbus–Senftenberg, international research and teaching experience is highly desirable, and willingness to teach in English is a requirement.

Please refer to §§ 41 paragraph 1 No 1 – 4a and 43 BbgHG for prerequisites and conditions of employment.
