ISDC – Inter­na­tional Secur­ity and Devel­op­ment Cen­ter is a non-profit aca­demic insti­tute based in Ber­lin, Ger­many. We con­duct research to improve lives and live­li­hoods shaped by viol­ent con­flict, fra­gil­ity and human­it­arian emer­gen­cies.

While based in Ber­lin’s cent­ral Mitte dis­trict, the global rel­ev­ance of our work leads us to engage in research pro­jects around the world. We are a young insti­tute that is grow­ing stead­ily. We are an inter­na­tional, mul­ti­cul­tural team and our work­ing lan­guage is Eng­lish.

Stu­dent Research Assist­ant/Werkstu­dent*in


Working field:

The Wel­fare Research Pro­gram at ISDC is seek­ing a
Stu­dent Research Assist­ant/ Werkstu­dent*in (part-time – 10 hours per week)
to sup­port vari­ous research pro­jects at the nexus of food secur­ity and con­flict. Under dir­ec­tion from the Dir­ector of the Research Pro­gramme on Wel­fare, the RA will provide sup­port to research, ana­lysis and oper­a­tions.

Respons­ib­il­it­ies include:
  • Clean­ing, pro­cessing and ana­lys­ing large-scale quant­it­at­ive sur­vey data
  • Draft­ing reports and papers
  • Lit­er­at­ure search


  • An excel­lent first degree in eco­nom­ics, quant­it­at­ive social sci­ences, data sci­ences, math­em­at­ics or a related dis­cip­line
  • Cur­rent enrol­ment in a related stud­ies pro­gramme in the Ber­lin region
  • Very good pro­fi­ciency in R
  • Excel­lent com­mand of Eng­lish

The advert­ised pos­i­tion is ideal for Mas­ter’s stu­dents in the rel­ev­ant dis­cip­lines registered at a uni­versity in the Ber­lin region.

The place of work will be at ISDC’s office in Ber­lin-Mitte; some home-based work is pos­sible. The pos­i­tion will be ini­tially lim­ited to a period of 12 months, with the pos­sib­il­ity of exten­sion. Remu­ner­a­tion will be in line with that for "Wis­senschaft­liche Hil­f­skräfte'' in Ber­lin.
