The Insti­tute of Radi­ation Phys­ics con­ducts research for states of mat­ter under extreme con­di­tions and in very small dimen­sions.

As part of the Insti­tute, the Helm­holtz Inter­na­tional Beam­line for Extreme Fields (HIBEF) invites applic­a­tions as Laser engin­eer (f/m/d).

The pos­i­tion will be avail­able from 1 July 2022. The employ­ment con­tract is lim­ited to two years.

Laser engin­eer (f/m/d)

Working field:

The suc­cess­ful can­did­ate (f/m/d) will be involved in the install­a­tion and oper­a­tion of the 300 TW Ti:Sap­phire and DIPOLE 100X laser sys­tems. This includes:

  • Install­a­tion and secur­ing the oper­a­tion of the lasers, beam trans­port, opto-mech­an­ics and elec­tro-optic com­pon­ents
  • Laser install­a­tion and com­mis­sion­ing
  • Real­iz­a­tion of con­trols and inter­fa­cing activ­it­ies
  • Coordin­a­tion and com­mu­nic­a­tion with vendors and other external part­ners
  • Do labor­at­ory pre­par­a­tion
  • Devel­op­ment of dia­gnostic pro­ced­ures for the detec­tion and cor­rec­tion of errors
  • Imple­ment­a­tion of the routine main­ten­ance
  • Oper­a­tions for XFEL-user exper­i­ments with highest reli­ab­il­ity

Requirements:

  • Uni­versity degree (Mas­ter of Sci­ence) in optical or laser Phys­ics, Phys­ics, Engin­eer­ing or related field stud­ies
  • Exper­i­ence of laser optical design and con­struc­tion, laser pulse dia­gnostics
  • Good com­mu­nic­a­tion skills and the abil­ity to work in a col­lab­or­at­ive team
  • Know­ledge of the reg­u­la­tions on occu­pa­tional safety, fire pro­tec­tion, radi­ation pro­tec­tion and laser pro­tec­tion
  • Very good eng­lish skills, ger­man skills desir­able
