Student Assistant positions (m/f/d)

(Position number: 19-2026 SHK RD 2)

The positions are funded for 7 months with the option of extension. Remunera-tion is in accordance with the German public tariff scheme (TV-L Brandenburg). The hourly rate for student assistants with a bachelor's degree is set to be €15.20 under the collective bargaining agreement (€13.98 for those without a bachelor's de-gree).These are part-time positions with a working time of 10 hours per week.

Applicants are encouraged to apply even if they do not fulfill all criteria, as the work-ing group is searching for two candidates who may complement each other.

Tasks:

Key responsibilities:

  • contribute to literature reviews in the field of adaptation to climate change, ag-ricultural systems in sub-Sahara Africa and Southeast Asia, food security, smallholder farmers and climate policy, to inform agricultural questionnaire development and survey design
  • support the design and implementation of household surveys and randomized controlled trials
  • support data pre-processing and cleaning of quantitative socio-economic data, agricultural data and climate data
  • transcribe interviews and focus group discussions for further scientific analysis
  • support with coding of qualitative interview data
  • support project reporting, project management and communication activities for ongoing projects
  • help to organise workshops and events at PIK

Requirements:

You are a Bachelor or Master student, enrolled at a German university, and ideally meet the following requirements:

  • studies in the field of economics, geography, agricultural science, political science, sociology, development studies, or another relevant field
  • knowledge of statistical methods and familiarity with programmes and programming languages such as Stata, R, or Python
  • experience with multiple types of data (e.g. socio-economic surveys, biophysical data, agricultural data, climate data, semi-structured interviews)
  • familiarity with academic literature, citation databases and literature search
  • ability to document your work clearly and accessibly to other users
  • excellent communication skills and fluency in oral and written English; profi-ciency in other languages, in particular French, is an asset
