interface – Tech analysis and policy ideas for Europe e.V.

interface is a European think tank specializing in digital technologies, politics and society. Our aim is to provide policy makers with expertise and ideas - free from commercial interests or party politics.

Are you looking for a job with added social value and want to work closely with Europe’s leading technology and digital experts? Then you have come to the right place! We are currently looking for a student assistant (m/f/d) in the digital public sphere program on platform regulation and online advertising (12 hours/week) to support our team from October 2024.

The topic area:

Online platforms such as social media, video apps and search engines have faced new rules under the EU’s “Digital Services Act”. These rules cover, among other things, reporting channels for users, risk assessments and access to data for researchers. This reflects the development of public debates and political opinion formation processes taking place in online spaces, but also the fact that there are risks associated with online platforms, especially for marginalized groups. How the new EU rules can be enforced in the short term, what improvements are necessary in the medium term and how they can contribute to a stronger digital public sphere in the long term is the focus of interface’s program on strengthening the digital public sphere and platform regulation. We are also looking at how other topics and laws from digital and consumer protection policy are related to platform regulation. This concerns, for example, the online advertising market and the Digital Markets Act and the Artificial Intelligence Act, respectively.
