Technische Universität Berlin offers an open position:
part-time employment may be possible
A postdoc position is available at the Institute for Art History and Historical Urban Studies at Technische Universität Berlin in the project "Premodern Provenance. Tracing, Telling and Imagining the Origins of Objects and Materials in the Medieval Mediterranean," which is funded by the DFG's Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize awarded to Professor Dr. Isabelle Dolezalek in 2023. The position is suitable for researchers in an early stage in their career.
Provenance research investigates changes of location and ownership of objects in various socio-political contexts. It enables an examination from a number of perspectives of processes of loss and appropriation, of narratives of origin, and of the function of objects in constructing cultural identities, and also sheds light on global power structures. While provenance research to date has mainly focused on modern contexts, the "Premodern Provenance" project aims to apply aspects of provenance research (e.g. the question of the legality of an acquisition or the circumstances under which an object/material was obtained) to medieval art production and reception, and to test them for the Mediterranean region.
The successful candidate will participate in the development of the project and its lines of investigation and gather a corpus of sources. They will also contribute to writing an application for third-party funding for a follow-up project. Further responsibilities include developing and conducting case studies, both independently and with the team, and independently writing academic texts for publication. They will be required to participate in organizing scientific events and help with the project administration.
