Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin - Sprach- und literaturwissenschaftlichen Fakultät - Institut für deutsche Literatur

Professor for “Modern German literature with a focus on gender and diversity”
(W3, “full professor”)

in the Department of Languages and Literature by 01.10.2026.

Working field:

The Faculty of Language, Literature and Humanities of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin seeks to appoint a

Professor for “Modern German literature with a focus on gender and diversity”
(W3, “full professor”)

in the Department of Languages and Literature by 01.10.2026.

The professorship is supposed to represent the subject specializations identified in the denomination, both in terms of systematic and literary-historical orientation. Two proven literary-historical specializations in the field of Modern German literature with a relevant focus on gender and/or diversity-related teaching and/or research should therefore be demonstrated. In addition, a theoretical perspective in the field of intersectionality is desirable.

Applicants should support the growing importance of diversity and inclusion programs in school contexts, particularly in the area of teacher training at all school levels (primary school, ISG), by providing a disciplinary foundation. We expect the development and expansion of intersectional perspectives in relation to school-relevant areas of competence in German literature. A willingness to engage in this field is a prerequisite. The professorship will also contribute proportionately to the teaching programs for primary school teaching and should assume leadership responsibilities in this area.

In the area of research, the professorship should also demonstrate this spectrum and develop projects within the systematic field characterized by the denomination. It is desirable that applicants should participate in ongoing collaborative and externally funded projects and apply for new collaborative and externally funded projects. An anchoring in teaching and research with the cross-faculty Centre for transdisciplinary Gender Studies (ZtG) is planned.

The applicant must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the ’Berliner Hochschulgesetz’.

The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin is seeking to increase the proportion of women in research and teaching, and specifically encourages qualified female scholars to apply.
