Professorship “Religious Studies” (W3)

The Faculty of Theology invites applications for a
Full Professorship “Religious Studies” (W3)
from 1 April 2027.

Working field:

The professorship covers the entire field of religious studies in research and teaching, with a focus on contemporary empirical religious studies and on religious studies research regarding religious history. Furthermore, the position is designed to contribute to the profile of Humboldt University's theologically motivated academic research and teaching hub in the field of religion for the greater Berlin area.

The duties of the professorship include teaching courses and further developing the curricula, particularly in interreligious and internationally oriented degree programs such as the Master of Religion and Culture or the Bachelor of Religion and Society, which is currently under development. This includes supervising exam papers, bachelor's and master's theses, doctoral dissertations, and postdoctoral theses. Support for and participation in academic self-administration is a matter of course. In addition to acquiring and implementing third-party funded projects, the successful candidate is also expected to be willing to engage in interdisciplinary cooperation with other faculties and institutes at Humboldt University in Berlin and other research institutions in the Berlin area, as well as to participate in the international networking of the Faculty of Protestant Theology.

Requirements:

Requirements for appointment are a completed degree in Protestant theology or another relevant subject, pedagogical aptitude and the particular capability to carry out in-depth independent academic work, demonstrated by an outstanding and relevant doctorate, a habilitation, or equivalent achievements in the field. Research and teaching experience in these research areas should be demonstrated.

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the `Berliner Hochschulgesetz`.
