The Department of Library and Information Science of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities invites applications for a Full Professorship ‘Open Science’ (W2) from 1 October 2026.
Applicants (m/f/d) are expected to have expertise in the area of Information Infrastructures for Open Science as well as in several of the following areas:
Research activities should cover both theory development and applied topics in Library and Information Science. Particular focus is placed on the digital transformation of scholarly information infrastructures, standards, policies, reforms and practices for Open Science and their implications for research and society, and the sociotechnical processes of information production and provision. This professorship will complement and enrich the teaching and research fields of the department.
The Department of Library and Information Science (IBI) derives its mission from the constant transformation of the information society. The IBI holds a unique position in the German academic landscape, focusing on information infrastructures, particularly libraries. It is the only university-based information science department that prioritizes library science and library practice as research focal points. The department distinguishes itself through the integration of information science and science studies perspectives.
The position holder will demonstrate outstanding national and international research activities, evidenced by peer-reviewed publications, university-level teaching experience, experience in academic peer review processes, successful acquisition and management of third-party funded projects, and active contributions to national information infrastructures.
The successful candidate will teach in all study programs (BA and MA) of the department and take responsibility for teaching modules (some in English), particularly the modules Information Production and Management (BA) and Digital Information Management and Digital Information Infrastructures (MA).
The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the `Berliner Hochschulgesetz`.
Applicants must have a completed doctoral degree and additional academic achievements that are equivalent to a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent qualifications. Also required are teaching aptitude, including experience in higher education teaching, and proven experience in acquiring and managing third-party funded research projects. Engagement in internal academic self-governance is also desired.
