Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty VI - Planning Building Environment, Institute of Architecture / Architecture and Structural Design

Research Assistant - 0.75 working-time

Your responsibilities:

At the Chair of Architecture and Structural Design, a position for a research associate is to be filled within the framework of the third-party funded project “InTrArc – Interactive Structural Platform for Architecture.”
The InTrArc project develops a digital, interactive teaching and learning platform that makes complex interrelationships between architecture, structural systems, materials, and sustainability experientially accessible through parametric models, visualizations, and interactive modules. The aim is to fundamentally expand structural education in architectural studies through digital approaches and to rethink it from a didactic perspective.

Area of Responsibilities:

  • Conceptualization, system architecture, and programming of the web-based platform
    (backend and frontend development)
  • Development of interactive modules for the visualization of structural relationships
(e.g., geometry, load transfer, deformation, structural behavior)
  • Implementation of interfaces between computational models and visual representation
  • Development and structuring of data models for parametric and interactive content
  • Integration of visualization and interaction technologies into a didactic learning environment
  • Documentation of the software architecture and developed modules
  • Contribution to scientific publications, project reports, and presentations
  • Support in the testing and further development of the platform in teaching contexts

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom or equivalent) in computer science, media informatics, software engineering, computational design, or a related field
  • Very good knowledge of software development, in particular:
o Python or comparable backend technologies
o Web technologies (e.g., JavaScript, TypeScript, modern frontend frameworks)
  • Experience with:
o Web architectures and API design
o Data structures and modeling of complex relationships
o Visualization of interactive content (e.g., WebGL, Three.js, or similar)
  • Interest in the development of digital tools in educational and research contexts is preferred
  • Ability to work independently and conceptually is an advantage
  • Good German and/or English language skills required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
  • Experience with geometric or parametric modeling is an advantage
  • Knowledge in the visualization of technical or physical systems is an advantage
  • Interest in architecture, construction, or structural thinking is preferred
  • Experience in research or development projects is an advantage
