W3-S-Professorship for Empirical Educational Research with a special focus on data-based school and teaching development

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Institute for Education Studies, and IPN | Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education invite applications for a W3-S-Professorship for Empirical Educational Research with a special focus on data-based school and teaching development to be filled at the earliest opportunity.

Tasks:

The successful candidate is expected to head the Department of “Subject-Specific Knowledge Transfer” (FET) at the IPN | Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education. Department heads at the IPN are members of the institute`s board of directors. The research program focuses on work to improve the quality of teaching and teacher professional development, with a particular emphasis on the STEM subjects represented at the IPN. The professorship works closely with the other departments at the IPN and with the network of the German Center for Mathematics Teacher Education (DZLM), e.g. in nationwide programs such as QuaMath and Startchancen. Your task will continue establishing networks similar to the DZLM for the natural sciences and computer science.

In doing so, the successful candidate will focus in particular on issues relating to the successful professionalization of teachers and data-based school and teaching development. The teaching obligations of the professorship (reduced teaching load of 2 contact hours (“Semesterwochenstunden”) per semester) will be at the Institute for Education Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.

Requirements:

We are looking for a leader who is nationally and internationally recognized and established through outstanding scientific achievements in quantitative empirical educational research. Research experience in professional research and/or in teaching and school development research, as well as experience in cooperation with state institutes and ministries in complex implementation projects, is expected. Experience in acquiring competitive third-party funding, managing research projects, personnel management is expected. Experience in interdisciplinary cooperation, particularly concerning collaboration at the IPN, Institute for Educational Quality Improvement (IQB), and the Institute of Education Studies at the Faculty of Cultural, Social, and Educational Sciences at HU, is advantageous.

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the ´Berliner Hochschulgesetz`.
