The Faculty of Language, Literature and Humanities at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin seeks to appoint a Professor (W2) of Scandinavian Literatures (18th century – present) to commence from April 1st, 2027.
The chair is based at the Department of Northern European Studies and represents the full scope of the field of Scandinavian Literatures from the 18th century until the present, in both research and teaching, and in close collaboration with the other chairs at the Department of Northern European Studies (Scandinavian Medieval Studies, Scandinavian Linguistics and History, Societies and Politics of Northern Europe).
The successful candidate is expected to have an internationally recognised research profile, showing a solid publication record, talks and keynotes at international conferences, a strong international network, and ample experience in applying for external funding. Teaching and research in the multilingual environment that is the Department of Northern European Studies furthermore requires the successful candidate to be able to teach in at least one Continental Scandinavian language and in English. Fluency in German, if insufficient, is expected to be acquired within two years upon appointment.
Responsibilities include teaching in all relevant study programmes (BA Scandinavian Studies, MA Scandinavian Studies, as well as interdisciplinary programmes) and academic governance. We expect active involvement in promoting the department’s teaching and research profile, as well as a willingness to engage in inter- and transdisciplinary co- operation (including applications for external funding), within the faculty and with other relevant institutes, at both national and international level.
The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 100 of the ‘Berliner Hochschulgesetz’.
