to support the implementation of a noble gas mass spectrometer system

At the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Hydrosciences, the Institute of Groundwater Management offers a full-time project position as Research Associate (m/f/x)
to support the implementation of a noble gas mass spectrometer system (subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L) starting at the next possible date. The position is limited until December 31, 2027. The period of employment is governed by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). Balancing family and career is an important issue. The position is generally suitable for candidates seeking part-time employment. Please indicate the request in your application.

At the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, a noble gas mass spectrometer system for helium isotope analysis is currently setting up. Helium isotopes can be used to estimate the average travel times of groundwater, which is of great importance for its sustainable management in the context of climate change.

Tasks:

  • scientific research tasks
  • assemble, integrate and test components (vacuum, electronics) into the system
  • quality-check manufactured parts
  • identify faults and design errors, support the design process for better solutions
  • automate process sequences
  • demonstrate module functionality

Requirements:

  • university degree in physics, analytical chemistry, electrical engineering, IT or a similar subject
  • initial experience in scientific instrument building
  • independent & proactive work attitude
  • A plus are skills in programming, electronics (control feedbacks, soldering, …) and vacuum assemblies (materials, pumps, measurement) as well as in automation (A/D interfaces, drivers, control software development).
  • Another plus: Experience in noble gas analysis.
