Chair (W3) of Global Justice and International Law

At the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, the Institute of International Law, Intellectual Property and Technology Law (IRGET) invites applications for the
Chair (W3) of Global Justice and International Law
to be filled at the earliest possible date.

Tasks:

The Chair represents international law in its entirety in both research and teaching, with a special focus on issues of global justice. It is primarily involved in the interdisciplinary, partially English-language Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in International Relations at the Center for International Studies. In view of the interdisciplinary nature of the degree programs, research collaborations with the Institute of Political Science and the Faculty of Business and Economics are desirable. In addition, the Chair should participate in initiatives as part of the Research Priority Areas of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science.
The Chair will contribute to the continued development of the Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in International Relations, the degree programs of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, and the establishment of a future English-language LL.M. in International Law and Global Justice within the EUTOPIA university alliance. This includes the development of innovative teaching and learning formats, both digital and non-digital.
The duties of the Chair also include participation in academic self-administration, in particular in the committees of the Center for International Studies, the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, and TUD.

Requirements:

We are looking for a committed individual (m/f/x) who is academically qualified and well-connected in the field of international law. We expect you to engage academically with global transformation processes, such as issues of global justice in a rapidly changing world, the regulation of new technologies, or the balance between economic interests and sustainable development. You have proven your professional profile through active, relevant, English-language, and ideally interdisciplinary publications in one or more of the following areas: International economic law, international environmental law, sustainability and climate change, international development law, or the law of digitalization, e.g., in the field of cybersecurity. Your core research areas should also be compatible with the development strategy of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. In addition, we expect your willingness to collaborate in the core research areas of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, in joint research projects, the United Nations Research Center, and in interdisciplinary research. We also would like you to have experience in acquiring third-party funding.

Your willingness and ability to teach courses in international law in both German and English is required, as is your understanding of political and business administration and economics issues and methods in interdisciplinary courses. You are highly skilled in teaching and have extensive independent teaching experience, including the ability to convey complex content in a way that is appropriate for the target audience. In this sense, you are able to offer courses such as International Economic Law, International Environmental and Climate Change Law, International Humanitarian Law, International Human Rights Law, or EU Law. We would like to see some experience in developing new fields of study.

We also expect your active participation in academic self-administration. Your independent, reflective approach to work, strategic thinking, sense of responsibility, and ability to motivate and lead diverse, interdisciplinary teams make you the perfect fit.

We require a first state examination in law, an LL.M. or comparable degree, and an outstanding doctorate.

The requirements for appointment, the official duties and the administrative status are governed by §§ 59, 69, 71 of the Act on Higher Education Institutions in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSG) and the Saxon Regulation on Official Duties at Higher Education Institutions (HSDAVO). The chair can be filled either through a civil-servant appointment or an employment contract.
