Technische Universität Berlin - Faculty II - Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Institute of Chemistry / Functional Interfaces

Research Assistant - 0.67 working-time

Your responsibilities:

Participation in the DFG-funded project: “Phase Behavior, Structure, and Dynamics of Sponge Phases and Biosurfactant-Based Bicontinuous Microemulsions under Confinement in Porous Geometries”. When complex fluids (e.g., surfactant-based sponge phases and bicontinuous microemulsions) spread within a mesoporous structure, changes in their phase behavior, structure, and internal dynamics are expected. Consequently, changes should also occur in the physicochemical properties of these colloidal systems. The advertised position will focus on investigating these interrelationships. The opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree (PhD) is available.
Classical laboratory methods for the investigation of colloids and interfaces will be employed (e.g. tensiometry, DLS, characterization of phase behavior). These methods will be complemented by X-ray and neutron scattering techniques as well as imaging-based radiographic methods. The challenging data analysis will be carried out in collaboration with various cooperation partners

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master, Diplom, or equivalent)n chemistry, physics, or a related field
  • Experience in applying scattering techniques to investigate the structure of colloidal and polymer systems
  • Knowledge of data analysis using Python or similar programming languages
  • Good knowledge of German and/or English required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
