About us:

The Semiconductor Nano- and Quantum Materials group at TU Berlin is looking for a motivated candidate (m/f/d) to explore intervalley scattering in one-dimensional (1D) nanowire-based photovoltaic devices. The position aims to deepen understanding of this fundamental carrier mechanism and its role in overcoming the theoretical upper limits of single-junction photovoltaic devices in power conversion efficiency. The candidate will perform optical and electrical characterization of epitaxially grown nanostructures, as well as numerical simulations. The project will be carried out in close collaboration with other group members in a highly cooperative environment at TU Berlin and the Paul-Drude-Institute (PDI) Berlin.

Your responsibilities:

  • Research in the field of experimental solid-state physics as well as nano optoelectronics, in particular, steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy and electrical transport spectroscopy of 1D nanowires
  • Utilizing the generalized Planck’s radiation law to determine the thermodynamic properties of hot carriers in nanostructures
  • Applying self-consistent Schrödinger- Poisson solvers to design heterostructures for resonant-tunneling mechanisms
  • Clean-room nanofabrication of epitaxially grown nanowires
  • Design and assembly of optical and electrical measurement setups
  • Close collaboration with experts in state-of-the-art semiconductor materials synthesis and characterization (MBE, SEM, XRD, TEM)
  • Teaching in lab sessions and exercises (experimental physics and nanotechnology)

More information about the position can be obtained from Prof. Gregor Koblmüller (e-mail: koblmueller.office@physik.tu berlin.de, phone +49 30 314 21620, web: https://www.ifkp.tu-berlin.de/menue/arbeitsgruppen/agkoblmueller/)

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed university degree (Master's, Diplom, or equivalent) in physics or electrical engineering
  • In-depth knowledge of solid-state physics and the optical and electrical properties of nanostructures
  • Experimental expertise in the assembly or development of sensitive optoelectrical measurement setups is a great advantage
  • Expertise in modeling quantum mechanical carrier transport phenomena is desired
  • The ability to teach in German and/or in English is required; willingness to acquire the respective missing language skills
  • A high degree of determination, commitment and the ability to work independently in academic research; experimental skill in handling complex laboratory setups, interest in the automation and optimization of experiments

How to apply:

Please send your application with the reference number and the appropriate documents (CV, motivation letter, university degrees, certificates, publications etc.) all combined in a single pdf file, max 5 MB) exclusively by email to Prof. Dr. Gregor Koblmüller via koblmueller.office@physik.tu-berlin.de.
